We celebrated Mikee's birthday in October (she turned nine) with a traditional children's party at Knightstone and also, as usual, the parents were invited as well.
I have also included here some photos from a trip to Topsham with Mikee and the Halloween party at St. John's School with a fireworks display.
Every year Ottery St. Mary has its Tar Barrel Day on the 5th of November, Guy Fawkes' Day. Men – and women – carry on their shoulders burning barrels filled with tar and rush around the crowds in the streets and in the square. It is a crazy event and none is sure of how the tradition began. There is no other town or place that has something remotely similar to this. As it is dark and a flash wouldn't work the long distances away (and would destroy the atmosphere anyway) the pictures are all taken with slow speed and high ISO (meaning grainy pictures), but this creates a very special style, where the smoke and flames and sparks are dominating and the faces are diffuse figures in this crazy mass of people. I think the pictures succeed to catch the very special atmosphere of this event.
Finally something calmer to finish off with: A couple of pictures from a visit by Mikee, Susanne, Dave and I to Dartmoor with some soothing landscape views.
