A small road cross the mountains in the north of Eysturoy between Eiði and Gjógv. It wasn’t ploughed in wintertime, so it was closed for traffic, but Jennifer and I tried it anyway. The first time was the day, when it had snowed a lot and I was focused on driving the car through the snowdrifts, but we noticed the lake below us. It is called Eiðisvatn or Lake Eiði. The second time was more relaxed driving and we could focus on the landscape.
Not far from the village of Eiði is Lake Eiði. It has been extended by the building of two walls at either end of the lake. A tunnel takes the water down to a small hydropower plant near the sea. We stopped to photograph the landscape and maybe most of all the dramatic sky, reflected in the lake.
