The previous posts here have dealt with the northernmost fjord on Eysturoy, Funningfjørður and its villages, Funningur and Elduvik and at the end of the fjord the village with the same name as the fjord itself, Funningfjørður. And in one post I described the view over the fjord from Hvithammar, a viewpoint high up among the mountains. In this post we go to the next fjord on Eysturoy, Oyndarfjørður, immediately south of Funningfjørður.
Just like Funningfjørður, Oyndarfjørður has a village with exactly the same name at the fjord. It had 140 inhabitants in 2020. We went there to explore the village but were stuck by a very attractive waterfall at the end of the fjord before we arrived. I haven’t been able to find a name for it (there are waterfalls everywhere on the Faroes). The terrain was boggy, walking up to it, and we had to climb steep hills and cross streams to get to good positions for my photography, but with Jennifer’s help I succeeded to capture the waterfall as I wanted it.

The village had no road connection it to other settlements until 1969. Before that people had to walk over the mountains. Be we could drive and came across a little river that went through the village and a nice, white-painted church, erected in 1838.
