LOBIOS

The church at Lobios

On our journey through the Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês we also crossed over the border to Spain. No border controls or anything like that, we just continued to drive and couldn’t see any signs where one country finished and another took over. The landscape and culture are obviously very similar or identical. We stopped for a lunch at Lobidos, a small village of less than 2,000 inhabitants. Lobidos is in Galicia, the county in northwest Spain. And, of course, I ventured out with my camera to see the village.

This was the first time I came across granaries that looked like tombs. They are used for storing grain and are constructed by granite and raised on columns. We will see more of those in the next post, back in Portugal, but this was my first experience of them. In Portuguese they are called Espigueiros.
