Barns and houses

Barn at Lower Burton Farm

On one of my walks I stumbled across this lovely barn. It is situated at Lower Burton Farm just outside Eardisland. The barn is overgrown with Virginia Creeper. The creepers turn a crimson colour which peaks in late September and early October. The loose, trailing curtains hanging from the gutter and on the gable are typical. It climbs using small tendrils tipped with adhesive pads, which is why it can climb up and over the roof. It is deciduous and the leaves will drop later in October, when it gets colder.

On another of my walks I ventured through apple orchards before ending up in the small village of Weobley and found the same creepers covering an old black-and-white cottage in the village. Wonderful colour combinations with the blue sky, the red creepers, the green leaves surrounding it and the warm sun lighting everything up. and not far from that house was the Unicorn Inn, unfortunately closed this week. Otherwise it would have provided a welcome beer after my walk.

A very typical black-and-white cottage on the corner of Gadbridge Road in Weobley
The Unicorn Inn and a neighbouring building. Notice the typical first floor extending beyond the ground floor on these traditional black-and-white houses
