Black Linn Falls

Black Linn Falls

I left East Neuk and my friends after a few days to continue northwest into the Scottish Highlands. It rained a lot during my days here and very aptly I spent a lot of time photographing waterfalls. It was plenty of water in the falls, and the grey clouds are actually conducive to this type of photography, as sunshine tend to create to sharp contrasts between sunny and shadowy parts of the rivers and streams.

My first port of call were the Black Linn Falls not far north of Perth. Easily accessible they are claimed by National Trust to be one of the oldest tourist attractions in Scotland. In 1757 a folly was built to provide a viewing point over the falls and in the 19th century mirrors were installed in the hall, so that the ladies could view the falls without actually having to lean over and be at risk. Wow, that was the times!

Looking down towards the falls and the pool, where river Brian turns 90 degrees and runs underneath an old stone bridge

The whole area provided lots of paths and walkways and even a couple of benches, where I could place my camera backpack (and myself).
