Inland from Wadi Shab is the town of Ibra. But although, as the crow flies, Ibra isn’t far from Wadi Shab, an inhospitable mountain range blocks the way and we had a separate excursion to Ibra.
And near the modern town of Ibra is the Al Munisifeh village, an old mudbrick dilapidated village surrounded by the remains of the original defensive walls. It took our family an hour to find the old village, but we were rewarded by interesting architecture, while we walked around the old alleyways. And among the old and mainly deserted town we could find a house, where they served coffee on the roof terrace.
Originally the mudbrick houses would have been rendered, but over time the rendering had disappeared, the roofs had fallen in and only part of the walls and some intricate details around door and window frames remained for us to admire.
