WADI SHAB

Wadi Shab

Southeast of Muscat along the coast is Wadi Shab. A wadi is a ravine or canyon or riverbed. Normally, in Arab countries, the wadis are dry most of the year, but in Oman they are frequently fed by underground mountain springs, so the water flows all year around.

We had a walk along Wadi Shab. The water had cut out a deep ravine and above us towered red sandstone mountains and in the wadi itself it was like an oasis with lots of vegetation supported by the water flowing along the valley floor. In December the temperature was still hot but bearable.

The canyon floor was full of large boulders that the water had carried downstream during fresh floods. It is Eric, Rada and Arne waiting for Jennifer, Mikee and me trailing behind.
Further up along the wadi floor a couple of small lakes or ponds provided a viewpoint for the eye and a lovely place to rest during our walk.

Magiskt!
