Jebel Akhdar II - Jan-Eric Osterlund

*At an altitude of 2,100 metres on Jebel Akhdar looking down into the chasm breaking through the mountain massive. The sun has just risen and lit up the distant mountains*

We spent a few days at the mountain plateau of Jebel Akhdar. This is the second post from the plateau at just above 2,000 metres. This first five photos here are taken at sunrise. The very first (above here) is a wide angle photo captured half an hour after sunrise. The valley is still in shadow but the mountains in the background are lit up. The second photo below here is taken 15 minutes before and with a tele-lens, but you can see the same village and sunlit mountains in the background and the full moon is still bright.

All the time I took the photos of the sun rise, this gentleman was sitting there waiting for the same spectacle to appear as we were watching. We had a nice chat but his English was limited and our understanding of Arabic was non-existent.

Very imprssive! And you must get at least some free time between sunrise and sunset…

  Yes, but even at that altitude it was quite hot during the middle of the day.One day all of us hiked between three villages (see my previous post), so we tried to be active. But for photography, the mornings were great and I was up every morning to find a different view. We had a local guide and he was very knowledgeable, where I could go.
