WADI AL AYN

Wadi al Ayn with its terraced gardens and one of its villages in the background

Cutting through the Jebel Akhdar plateau is the canyon-like chasm of Wadi al Ayn. Climbing precariously along the edge of the abyss are three villages with spectacular views over the gorge below. We had a walk along and between the three villages, Al Aqr, Al Ayn and A’Sherageh.

Surrounding the villages are terraced gardens planted with palm trees and flowers and vegetables. The gardens are watered by falajs, water canals that leads the water along the plantations. They are built of stone and cement, and we could walk on the sides of the falajs between the villages.

Another village
I wonder how many accidents have happened with children on these terraces?
A bridge for the villagers to walk across, but above all for the water to flow smoothly through the falaj
