JEBEL AKHDAR

A deep ravine cutting through the mountain range

From the town of Nizwa (see previous post) we took us up to the mountain plateau of Jebel Akhdar. Our family felt that this was the high point of our Omani adventure with a very interesting and attractive landscape. We were at an altitude of around 2,000 metres with deep ravines or wadis cutting through the mountain massive.

We stayed at a hotel up at the plateau and ventured out for walks during daytime. A short time around sunrise and sunset, the light became magical, the colours were warm and the low-lying sun sculptured the mountains with light and shadows. As you can see, my images of the plaeau and its wadis are from those time periods.

Looking down into the wadi everything was still in deep shadow, but at the top of the mountain range we had the sun warming us
At sunset everything took on the golden colours. We are at the Jebel Akhdar plateau
A sunburst through the branches of a gnarled bush on the mountain
And six an a half minute later the sun has reached the mountain
There we’re small settlements here and there on the plateau
From our hotel on the Jebel Akhdar plateau we could see straight down a thousand metres into the abyss that were the different wadis. I am happy they had a railing protecting us
