LLANBERIS WATERFALL

Rapids along Afon Arddu, the river just outside Llanberis

Eryri or Snowdonia National Park is a mountainous landscape in northwest Wales. It includes Wales tallest mountain, Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon) and stretches over an area of more than 800 square miles at the northwest part of Wales. Llanberis is a small town in Eryri and one of the potential bases for walks in the park. Llanberis is also the starting point for the railway that for more than a hundred years have brought people all the way to the top of Mount Snowdon.

But I used Llanberis as a starting point for a short, leisurely walk along a small river (I would have called it a stream), the Afon Arddu river, leading me to the Ceunant Mawr Waterfall just outside Llanberis. And on the way I captured a few photos of the rapids in the river.

More rapids along my walk

At the end of my walk was the waterfall, which I estimated to around 20 metres. Eryri is one of the rainiest places on the British Isles with an annual rainfall of around 5 metres (8 times the rainfall in London). But I visited during an exceptionally hot and dry summer, so the stream and waterfall was more limited than during springtime.
