Swedish Service

We celebrated this year's Swedish service in Devon in Exeter Cathedral. The cathedral was built in the 12th century and the church in Ottery St Mary from 1350 is a smaller copy of the cathedral.

Every year, the Swedish Church (in the form of Michael, our Rector, and Camilla, his wife, come down to Devon for a Swedish Service. This year it took place in the Lady Chapel in Exeter Cathedral and around 60 Swedes from the southwest ascended upon Exeter to participate. Thank you Jonathan (Dean of the cathedral) for letting us be in your beautiful cathedral! It was a very lovely and warm day, although a little cloudy in the morning. After the service we had a lunch provided by the Rusty Pig at a room around the courtyard of the Cathedral.

Michael Persson, the rector of the Swedish Church in London, conducted – as he has done the last nine years – the service. Michael and Camilla are now moving back to Sweden within a year and this will be his last service for us in Devon. Michael and Camilla stayed with us at Knightstone Manor. But our close relationship will continue. And Camilla is Godmother to Eric so we will have plenty of opportunities to see each other. I am at the same time leaving the Church Council for the Swedish Church but will continue in other capacities.

All in all we were around 60 of us.

Thank you Michael and Camilla for coming down to us in Southwest England. You have put an enormous effort into spreading the Swedish Church outside London and you have reached out to other churches and other faiths in your ambition of bringing us all together. We love you!
